I recently learned that many people casually call an AKM an AK-47. I saw in a Facebook group that people were arguing about it but to me it was clearly an AK-47. It got me curious how many design differences get overlooked over time. Do you have trouble identifying between this two too?

The differences are actually pretty huge when you get into the guts of the gun. The AKM was a massive leap in manufacturing, it moved from a heavy, expensive milled receiver to a stamped steel one, which dropped the weight by nearly two pounds.

The AKM also introduced the slanted muzzle brake and the ribbed dust cover. It’s basically the 2.0 version that actually conquered the world, while the original AK-47 was only produced for a relatively short time

I would also like to add that the 2.0 version has seen some revisions throuhgt the years offering additional improvements.
