bring back stock to its former glory

Discussing of getting an ak from a friend of a friend of a friend for a price that I like.

haven't seen it yet but Im told the stock isn't in a very good shape and will need to be reworked. If it worth bothering with it or not?

The bothering moment depends on the damage you see. If it's just the surface, you can either take it to someone to have it resurfaced or do it yourself. Or if you don't want to bother with it, you can replace it. if you ask me, I'd be more concerned with the condition of anything but the stock

But there are so many different coatings which have been used on the AK over the years. I am not a refinishing guy but don't you have to know what went on before unless you are going to sand it all off and replace it?

Absolutely! I'm all for gettin my hands dirty but theres a limit. You need to know what went on before and if its damage damage Id replace it

Decided to let it go as much as i liked it it was in a very bad shape so i'll be looking for something better
